Mal Pais Weddings

Mal Pais is located at the southern most tip of the Nicoya peninsula.  This area is made up of three beaches, Playa Carmen, Santa Teresa and Mal Pais, but the area is generally referred to as, Mal Pais.  It is known for its surfer vibe and secluded, remote feel, with jungles that grow right up onto the shore. Mal Pais weddings are absolutely gorgeous!

Mal Pais, unlike the Tamarindo, Arenal or Manuel Antonio, is not quite as easily accessible, but it is certainly worth it.  Mal Pais is about three hours from San Jose or four and a half hours from Liberia.  You can also take a 20 minute domestic flight into Tambor, which is a 30 minute shuttle from Mal Pais, this is the easiest way of getting into Mal Pais, as the roads are not for the faint of heart.

Mal Pais is not short on activities.  They include:  horseback riding on the beach, ATV tours, hiking to waterfalls, surfing or surf lessons, diving, sport fishing, canopy tour, boat ride to Tortuga Island, and much more.  There are not many shops available, so be prepared to relax on the beach, enjoy a tour, or eat at one of the many eclectic little restaurants available.

When looking for rentals or hotels in Mal Pais, be prepared for a slightly more boutique style, there are no all-inclusives or very large hotels, Mal Pais keeps it small and personal.  The hotels and rentals range from beach front locations to hill-side, overlooking the ocean.  They range from luxury, boutique to rustic and surfer bungalow.

There are a variety of wedding options and combinations for ceremony and reception locations.  Below you can see some photos and ideas of what is available.

Luxury Home

Varying beachfront homes in a range of prices, offer an ideal location for your ceremony and very private and personal reception.  If you choose a hill-side location, consider doing your ceremony on the beach and heading back to your home for your sunset cocktail and reception with a view.  This option is great for smaller groups.
